Ruth’s surgery, Nairobi, Kenya

Funding Request: $2,187.50 CAD

Critical Need: CN-KNN1124

Ruth stands looking intently at the camera, she has a blue floral dress on.

Recently, Ruth began having severe abdominal pain and abnormal bleeding. Initially, the symptoms seemed like typical menstrual discomfort; however, she started experiencing heavy bleeding with clots.

However, in early 2024, Ruth’s condition worsened with chronic abdominal pain, back pain, headaches, fatigue, and bloating, leading her to seek further care. After medical evaluations, Ruth was diagnosed with multiple fibroids, and doctors recommended urgent surgery (myomectomy).

Given the severity of her condition and the risks of complications, the doctor recommended urgent surgery to remove the fibroids, stressing the need for immediate intervention to prevent further health deterioration. However, Ruth’s financial constraints have worsened her situation, making it increasingly difficult for her to afford the necessary medical care and surgery.

The Nairobi sponsor site has therefore requested $2,187.50 CAD to enable Ruth to pursue treatment, as well as to register her family with Kenya’s national health insurance plan. Ruth will be admitted to the hospital for further assessment and specialized treatment, including myomectomy surgery. After discharge from the hospital, the Nairobi site will support Ruth in obtaining her required medication. They will also support her to attend follow-up clinic reviews.
