Christmas is a time of giving, joy, and cherished moments. Our friends and families expressed deep gratitude for the festive holiday cheer at our sponsor site in Zambia. Without the generosity of our donors, Christmas at our sponsor sites would be very different.
Our Serenje sponsor site spans a large area in southern Zambia, and each community could celebrate in their own way. Thanks to everyone who gave to our Christmas fund or gave the gift of a Christmas celebration through our gift catalogue, every child and their family got to enjoy the birth of Christ.
Sr. Catherine says that last year, “Christmas was both joyful and unforgettable, thanks to your love and support for the Serenje site.”
Fr. Joseph celebrated Mass with sponsored children and their parents to thank God for the gift of our sponsors and the good health He has blessed us with throughout 2023. “We also prayed to invite His presence into our lives and families and to help us strengthen the mission of Chalice in the coming year,” says Sr. Catherine.
At the end, site director Sr. Catherine presented Fr. Joseph with gifts on behalf of the site. They wanted a part of their Christmas celebrations to “support our local churches by refurbishing them. For it is said cleanliness is next to Godliness.”
They gave chairs, Christmas decorations, and carpets. “Fr. Joseph, on behalf of the parishioners and the church council committee, was grateful for the gifts received.” Sr. Catherine says, “The church looks so nice. Thanks to all who have made it possible.”
After Mass, it was time to “share food and drink, be merry, and support nutrition for children and parents.” All the children gathered for sausages, chicken, veggies, rice, and the Zambian staple nshima, a pounded corn side dish. It was a big hit!
“The celebrations brought big smiles to the faces of the sponsored children, their parents, the community, and everyone else who took part in the festivities,” says Sr. Catherine This is the true spirit of Christmas, bringing people together in joy and love.
“We sincerely express our heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors, you made our Christmas celebration day wonderful. We wouldn’t have made it without you,” says Sr. Catherine.
Christmas celebrations at our sites are filled with thoughtful prayer, enough food for all, and the warmth of family and friends.
