Vanitha’s Surgery, Tamil, India

Funding Request: $1,990.51 CAD

Critical Need: CNITM0724

In April 2024, Vanitha had severe body and stomach pain. Her fever was alarming, so her parents took her to the hospital. A blood test confirmed she had typhoid fever. The doctors began treatment.

While her fever subsided, her severe stomach pain persisted. Her doctors ran a scan and discovered gallstones. Vanitha needed surgery, and the doctors transferred her to a second hospital, as their present one was not equipped for that procedure.

At the second hospital, Vanitha was diagnosed with acute calculus cholecystitis, a condition where a gallstone obstructs the cystic duct. Vanitha underwent a laparoscopic procedure to remove the affected portion of her gallbladder

Following successful surgery, she was discharged four days later in good health. Three days later, Vanitha visited the hospital to have her stitches removed. A week after her surgery, she had a check-up, and her doctors were happy to see she was recovering well, and her prescribed medications were effective.

But her multi-hospital treatment incurred substantial medical expenses, amounting to $1,990.51 CAD. This is far beyond Saravanan’s humble income. The Tamil site staff have therefore requested to cover Vanitha’s bills from both hospitals, which includes her lab tests and diagnostic scans, the operation, medicines, medical items, and fees for doctor consultations and nursing care.
