Nutrition Support for Sponsored Families and Site Staff, Haiti North

The social, political, and economic crisis in Haiti continues to deteriorate. Haitian families are food insecure and on the verge of starvation due to escalating prices and limited availability of some commodities. According to the UN, as of October 2024, half of Haiti’s population are experiencing acute hunger. Two million are facing extreme hunger and malnutrition.

Last year, our Haiti North sponsor site partnered with Chalice to provide every family and site staff members with extra funds to buy food. 1811 children and their families received their funds each quarter. Chalice supporters helped cushion the impact of increasing costs as families struggled to meet basic needs.

Throughout last year’s program, site staff organized meetings with the Chalice family circles, where they held constructive discussions about how to make the most of their nutrition funds.

They also placed an emphasis on buying healthy breakfast foods. “This strategic decision aimed to enhance cognitive performance, provide sustained energy throughout the morning, and contribute to the overall well-being of the beneficiaries and staff,” says Edley, Haiti North site director.

In response to the worsening food insecurity emergency in their site, the Haiti North team have requested to continue the nutrition aid program for a second year. Your support gives the families the purchasing power to buy local foods, even at their expensive price points.

The site staff will reprise their family circle meetings and guide parent leaders to make the most prudent decisions with their available resources.

Their total budget is $201,653.89 CAD. Through this, 1739 children and their 6100 family members can have reliable access to nutritious food during this humanitarian disaster.
