Many children in our Konta sponsor site live in a small community called Kpongu. Families mostly earn their livelihoods from small farms and businesses in this area. St. Benedict Parish, our sponsorship site partner, runs a kindergarten/primary school in Kpongu.
“The school is currently run in the church as they have no infrastructure,” writes Nicholas, sponsor site director.
Currently, the school has about 300 children and due to a lack of infrastructure, classes were taught outside under the trees.
Most of the children had to carry their own stools, or sit on the ground because they didn’t want to miss a lesson and the teachers also had to stand all day.
Thanks to everyone who gave a gift through Chalice’s gift catalogue, Kpongu received 50 dual desks and five teachers’ tables and chairs.
This gift brought so much joy to all the children that they were falling over each other to help unload them from the truck!
Headmistress Mad. Vida Evelyn wrote of her gratitude and that of her whole community – including teachers, staff, and parents.
“Words cannot express the joy of these children and the entire community to the donor and that God who is all-knowing will bless these donors, their families and sources of finance.”
