St. Therese Inspired This Fundraiser for Ukraine

Taking a leaf out of St. Therese’s Little Way, Kristin McCarthy has launched a small fundraiser with big heart.

The owner of Kristin McCarthy Designs in Rockwood, Ontario, Kristin has begun making small, woollen Ukrainian flags. She’s selling them and donating the money to a special cause: Chalice’s sites in Ukraine.

She’s co-leading the project with her daughter, Klaire, who handles the knitting, while Kristin felts.

“I haven’t raised a lot of money, but I think of St. Therese and her little way,” Kristin shared in an interview.

St. Therese’s Little Way reminds us how we can bring holiness into our everyday lives, and make ordinary actions an offering to God.

Of course, Kristin is being a bit modest. She’s sold 20+ flags and raised more than $200 for Chalice’s sites. The initiative has been popular with her neighbours and followers on Instagram.

She was moved after hearing about the toll the war has taken on people in Ukraine. The image of a Ukrainian flag popped into her head, and she realized it was something she could easily make, with her daughter’s help.

When it came to deciding where to give the money, she landed on Chalice, with whom she also sponsors a child in Kenya.

Fundraising is new to her, but Kristin is no stranger to the art world. She does everything from handmade woolen prayer beads to pastel greeting cards — but whatever it is, her inspiration all comes from the same place.

“They’re really just an expression of my faith,” she said.
