Welcome to Photo Friday! Each Friday, we share photo collections of our favourite shots from our sponsor sites around the world.
There’s no place like home. Having a safe place to sleep and a roof over one’s head is a basic right everyone should have access to. Sadly, many people live on the streets, or in unsafe structures.
Our top 5 ‘Home-Sweet-Home‘ photos remind us how valuable a place to call home really is – whether it’s a building or a person.
#5: A new friend
Sometimes home isn’t a building over one’s head, but a person who makes you feel at home. Didley is a community health worker in Terrier Rouge, Haiti. He and his colleagues make regular rounds of their neighborhood, checking in on the health of residents. In this photo, he’s visiting Elicienne.
#4: Family Time
Home is where the heart is, and for many, the heart goes where family goes. This lovely family has their own brand new house to spend time in together. Thank God for family!
#3: Providing Parents
Parents are committed to providing for the needs of their families at home, and that’s certainly the case with Fenelon at our Haiti North site. She sells poultry to bring in income for her home. Fun fact: the poultry are sold for gourdes, the Haitian national currency.
#2: Home Duties
Be honest: we all have memories of our parents nagging us to wash the dishes or fold our laundry. In this photo of our Haiti North site, you can see clothes drying in the background. It helps us remember that it’s a privilege to have a home where we can do our laundry, sweep the floor or dust off cabinets – even when our parents are nagging us.
#1: A House is Not a Home Without…
Love! You can practically see the love radiation between these three at our Haiti North site. A home is made complete when there’s lots of love, and if you’re lucky, you’ll carry that love with you forever.
