Chalice has been serving children and seniors in Paraguay since 2012 in 4 sites in primarily urban communities. Compared to neighbouring countries, there are very few international NGOs working in Paraguay. In the communities where Chalice works, there are no other similar supports. Our family circle-based sponsorship program is highly distinctive in this country.

Children in Paraguay are at a high risk of dropping out of school to find work, exacerbated by the high cost of education after junior high and the few opportunities for post-secondary education. Families who live outside major urban centres have extremely little access to public services. In the communities where Chalice works, families struggle with high rates of domestic and criminal violence.

Through the support of sponsors and donors, Chalice and our local partners focus on:

  1. Education – Paraguay sees high rates of children dropping out of school to find work. Chalice places emphasis on after-school support programming to keep children in school.
  2. Nutrition – our partners ensure children have balanced, nutrient –rich diets by implementing school feeding programs through the support of the Chalice Children Nutrition Program.
  3. Livelihood -  providing opportunities for parents to find work or begin their own income-generating projects.

Chalice has been serving children and seniors in Bolivia since 2004 in 6 sites, both in rural and urban communities. Our local partners tell us that Chalice is unique in the regions we serve because we dedicate more resources to supporting families at every level.

Children in Bolivia are vulnerable to discrimination towards indigenous populations and languages. Families face high rates of unemployment and/or under-salaried jobs. In the communities where Chalice works, there is very poor access to public services such as water, electricity, and transportation.

Through the support of sponsors and donors, Chalice and our local partners focus on:

  1. Education – Bolivia sees high rates of children dropping out of school to find work. Chalice places emphasis on after-school support programming to keep children in school.
  2. Nutrition – our partners ensure children have balanced, nutrient-rich diets by implementing school feeding programs through the support of the Chalice Nutrition Program.
  3. Inclusion of marginalized communities – Parents and seniors involved in family circles benefit equally from the sponsorship program’s funding, capacity building, and opportunities.

Chalice has been serving children and seniors in Guatemala since 2001 in the small town of Champerico. Of all of our sites around the world, our Guatemalan families have most embraced the power of prayer, and are enthusiastic about forming prayer groups for adults and children.

Children in Guatemala are vulnerable to high dropout rates in favour of finding work. Malnutrition is common in the areas where Chalice works because the most affordable meals are filling but nutrient-poor carbohydrates. Families in these communities struggle with high rates of violence due to the presence of gangs and drug trafficking.

Through the support of sponsors and donors, Chalice and our local partners focus on:

  1. Education - Providing after-school support programming to keep children in school. Additionally, to receive an education that will lead to post-secondary, children must enroll in private high schools for their final two years. Chalice provides assistance and scholarships to reduce these barriers to post-secondary education.
  2. Nutrition – our partners implement school feeding programs through the support of the Chalice Nutrition Program.
  3. Livelihood -  providing opportunities for parents to find work or begin their own income-generating projects.

Chalice has been serving children and seniors in Peru since 2004 in 2 sites in primarily urban communities.  Our Peruvian sites are exceptional in their ability to support and learn from each other, constantly sharing best practices and creating cohesive programming.

Children in Peru are vulnerable to high drop-out rates in favour of finding work. In the communities where Chalice works, families struggle with unemployment because most jobs require post-secondary degrees, but university is prohibitively expensive. The communities face high rates of both criminal and domestic violence.

Through the support of sponsors and donors, Chalice and our local partners focus on:

  1. Education – Peru sees high rates of children dropping out of school to find work. Chalice places emphasis on after-school support programming to keep children in school.
  2. Nutrition – our partners ensure children have balanced, nutrient-rich diets by implementing school feeding programs through the support of the Chalice Nutrition Program.
  3. Livelihood -  providing opportunities for parents to find work or begin their own income-generating projects.
