Porkodian’s pulmonary edema, Bangalore, India

In January 2024, Porkodian was installing a wire cable on the wall of a company. As he came down the ladder, he stepped on a nail on his left foot.

Three months later, he had a sudden onset of breathlessness and was admitted to the hospital and treated with antibiotics. He remained feverish and had trouble breathing. Less than a week later, he was admitted at a second hospital, where he was diagnosed with cellulitis on his left foot and pulmonary edema.

The doctor recommended that he get admitted to the hospital and undergo treatment. Porkodian discussed the situation with his wife, because staying at this hospital meant private expenses. He decided to stay.

He was treated with IV antibiotics and other supportive medication. Porkodian responded well, so they moved him to the ward for further treatment.  After eight days of hospitalization, he was discharged with one week of medication and physiotherapy.

Until he recovers, he will not be able to go to work and support his family's basic needs, ongoing education fees, and the rent. Glory’s income cannot make up for the difference, even in day-to-expenses. Porkodian’s hospital bill of $1,663.60 CAD was not possible to manage.

Glory told her Chalice family circle about her husband’s medical scare and the bills it generated. She gave all the bills, prescriptions, and reports. Her circle requested critical needs support via their Bangalore site staff.

They are requesting to repay Porkodian’s emergency expenses, which cover his hospitalization, medication, healthcare services and consultations.
