Christi, proud mother of three student-aged children, works hard for her family as an agricultural worker. But in the last year, abdominal pain has been holding her back. 


Christi, 42, had constant pain in her abdomen, and her doctor’s first recommendations for treatment were not giving her relief. Her neighbours encouraged her to go to the hospital for scans. The scans showed renal cysts and uterine fibroids, and her doctor explained that she would need surgery to remove them.

Her husband accompanied her to the hospital where she underwent the operation and stayed for follow-up treatment for five days. She now visits the hospital for check-ups every two weeks.

Both Christi and her husband are casual agricultural workers and cannot afford the bills her surgery incurred. Their daughter, Switcha, has a Chalice sponsor, so they approached the Madurai sponsor site staff for assistance. Her medical costs have come to a total of $1,652.38 CAD which includes her lab tests and scans, medication, surgery, and consultation fees. The Madurai team have therefore put forward a request for these needs.
