Njiru Stars supported a young mother who had been going through difficult times.

wawirathumbThe young mother’s name is Wawira. She is a hard-working young woman. Her husband who is a lorry driver lost his job due to the corona pandemic when many businesses closed. He now works as a casual driver in a small wholesale shop and at times the shop is not able to pay their workers.

Wawira was determined to cushion her children from hunger and started a small kitchen garden outside her house. She planted spinach, kales, onions pumpkins and beans. The crop did very well during the rainy period. She got enough to feed her family and supported other young mothers who did not have food for their children. Her good gesture was appreciated by the neighbors – especially Njiru Stars Group. The members decided to recruit her to join their group to work together to develop their community. Wawira is therefore the latest member of Njiru Stars Group.

Wawira is also a seamstress and three years ago, she was earning her income by sewing until she met with an accident caused by a speeding Matatu driver. She lost three teeth and broke three ribs and suffered internal bleeding.  She stayed in hospital for many months. She is grateful to God that she is alive and prayed to Him to give her the heart to forgive the driver. Her biggest dream is to restart her sewing business. One member of Njiru Starlet group will support her for a short while – this is a form of refresher course that Wawira needs. She also requires an electric sewing machine, an overlock machine and other accessories, an iron box, a table and cloth materials. This will cost kes. 105,000 or CAD $1,363.63.

Chalice Njiru Stars helping the community in KenyaNjiru Stars support the community during COVID-19 pandemic

In this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, members of Njiru Stars group have been in the forefront to help families who have been rendered jobless and are worried and anxious about what the future holds for them.

The children, who have been confined to their homes for long hours every day are restless and agitated, and this has heightened quarrels among siblings. Njiru Star members have come up with a plan to engage the children.

Across from their place of work, they have organized a playing field for the children and placed them in small groups according to their age/size. The members purchased a football for the children. Each day one group comes to the field at a particular time and when their time is up, they go back home. The mothers are happy to see their children happy and friendly toward each other.

Erick was chosen as the leader, and organizes the children. The other members check on the children to ensure they get back home safely.
