Simon was really scared, and he ran away to the nearest town. That is how he started living in the streets. He grew up in the streets in the town of Eldoret and later relocated to join street boys in Nairobi. To survive, he had to fight many street battles and in some instances, he suffered serious injuries. Other times, he was apprehended and sentenced to jail.
Simon is now the chairperson of Njiru Stars. He thanks Chalice and its partner, ILEG, for helping him to change and become a better person. He is no longer in trouble with the police. Simon, through Njiru Stars, benefitted with workspace. He started the 'Simon Milk Parlor' to sell fresh milk, mostly in the mornings, and sour milk/yogurt at luch time and in the evenings. He has made arrangements with a farmer who delivers fresh milk to his business. His dream is to supply fresh dairy milk and different types of dairy products to the families in Njiru. To improve his business, he requires an ATM milk machine, an oven, and a deep freezer at a cost of Kes. 299,800 or CAD $3,893.50.
