Project Location: Ternopil, Ukraine
Project Type: Health
Project Code: UTT0321
Background: Veniamin is 12 years old and lives with his mother, Maryana, and his big sister, Karina, in an apartment near Chalice's Ternopil sponsor site.
Veniamin experienced a frightening accident on March 2 when he was struck by a car when crossing the street. His family rushed him to the hospital, where the doctors assessed his severely damaged right foot. They determined that it could not heal with casts and braces alone, but needed immediate surgery. He went straight to the operating room, where surgeons placed temporary implants. Just over a week later, he went in for a second operation in which the surgeons replaced the implants with a permanent orthopedic plate and screws.
Maryana had brought her young family to Ternopil from a small village in search of employment. They stay in a relative's apartment while they too have travelled for work. She works as a seamstress in a local factory, but the pay is very low. Karina's health checkups can cost upwards of $150 CAD, almost half of Maryana's monthly income. Maryana has no means of affording Veniamin's orthopedic implants.
The Ternopil site has requested $915.33 CAD to cover the hospital bills for Veniamin's implants.
Funding Request: $915.33 CAD
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
