Project Type: Health
Project Code: PTM0321
Background: Jonelle is the 15-year-old brother of two younger sponsored children living near our Tondo site in the Philippines.
He was out late one evening, sitting eating at a carinderia (a small outdoor food stall) when a riot started and someone fired a 'sumpak', which is a homemade handgun.
Jonelle was accidentally shot multiple times and had to be rushed to Tondo General Hospital. An xray of the affected area was done and it confirmed that there was bone damage. He was given first aid and referred to the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital for treatment. It was determined that he had retained a bullet in his left knee, an osteochondral defect in the left distal femur, along with gunshot wound leg fracture, and shattered toe.
The family received a loan to pay for his xray and surgery because his condition was urgent, but they do not have the means to cover this cost. His mother is ill and cannot work and his father works one day a week as a truck driver and barely makes enough to feed everyone. He would like to work more, but his company would only assign him one trip a week.
The sponsor site director has asked Chalice for $321.86 to help Jonelle and his family pay this loan which is causing them much stress and anxiety.
Funding Request: $321.86
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
