Sr. Matilda Mulengachonzi and Sr. Asumpter Okafor from our Serenje site in Zambia were attacked by a thief in late August when they were going to the chapel.

Chalice critical needs - final expenses for Sr. Matilda, ZambiaBoth sustained head injuries, but Sr. Matilda slipped into a coma. Sr. Asumpter has healed from her injuries and is expected to eventually make a full recovery.

Sr. Matilda had four operations, but passed away after two months in the hospital.

The congregation has taken care of the hefty hospital bill and the site is requesting Chalice to assist with burial expenses of $1,939.71 so Sr. Matilda can have a proper burial and be laid to rest with the utmost dignity.

"Sister has served us so faithfully and with so much joy since she took up the post," says site director Sr. Catherine. "She was loved by all children and although the children, Sisters and her birth family have prayed for her faithfully since the attack, she did not wake up. We leave it all to God."
