She had been suffering from an on-and-off fever which lasted for a month.
Recently, Ronah experienced a severe headache and was referred to a neurologist. During an online video appointment (mode of consultation during pandemic), the neurologist requested a CT scan which was done at the public hospital on August 12. The scan showed that she needed a shunt inserted to drain fluid from her brain. Due to the pandemic, the government hospitals are only accepting COVID-19 patients, forcing the family to have Ronah taken to a private hospital. Ronah was in a great deal of pain and required emergency surgery. The family was left with a hospital bill for $2,802.14.
Ronah's mother and father both lost their jobs due to COVID and are trying to sell anything they can to scrape by. The sponsor site director has asked Chalice for $2,802.14 to cover the hospital bill and money the family borrowed to pay for the CT scan, other laboratory tests, and hospital deposit. Covering this large expense for the family will take the financial burden from them and allow them to focus on Ronah's recovery.
