Nazar is a sponsored child with special needs from our Ternopil sponsor site in Ukraine. He and his family recently lost their home in a house fire.
Thankfully no lives were lost due to the quick action of a neighbour, who noticed heavy smoke coming from the chimney around 4 a.m. and quickly alerted the family by knocking on their windows. The fire brigade was called and responded immediately; however the fire destroyed the entire second floor of their home. Shortly after the fire, heavy rains penetrated the open roof, causing more damage and making the home uninhabitable.
Nazar is living with a medical condition which requires treatment at the children's hospital every three months. His mother, Olha, was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2015. She has undergone five courses of chemotherapy and regularly undergoes rehabilitation at the Warsaw Oncology Institute every six months.
Nazar's father, Mykola, is the sole provider for the family. He takes seasonal jobs in Poland to support them; however, due to the current travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he has lost his main income. The family is in a desperate situation, as repairing the home is beyond their financial ability.
