Mario, father of a sponsored child from our Tondo site in the Philippines, suddenly felt dizzy one evening in early May and had difficulty breathing.
His wife rushed him to three hospitals, but he was not treated because they were told Mario needed a CT scan and they didn't have the equipment. He was then taken to a private hospital where he received the scan, and then he took his results to a public hospital where he was admitted for eight days. After a series of tests were completed, they concluded he had suffered a stroke, caused by an arterial blockage in his brain.
Mario was discharged with a request for a 2D Echo and 24-hour Holter Monitoring (a portable device for cardiac monitoring). He also needs therapy to revive the affected part of his brain.
Mario is the breadwinner of the family, and works as a painter to provide for his family's basic needs. Right now he is unable to work and the family has no means to cover the expense of his additional tests and therapy. The sponsor site has asked Chalice for $418.71 to hep Mario receive the care he needs to recover and return to work.
