Five-year-old Tracey is an unsponsored boy from our Tondo site in the Philippines.
He was born with a congenital heart defect (Tetralogy of Fallot) which is a rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects. These defects, which affect the structure of the heart, cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart to the rest of the body.
In November 2018, Tracey needed immediate heart surgery, which was covered by Chalice through critical needs funding. After his surgery, his blood pressure was unstable and he couldn't breathe, so he was put on a ventilator. Medicines were given to stabilize his blood pressure. On December 11, Tracey was supposed to be discharged, but once again he had difficulty breathing, so a tracheostomy was performed and he was re-admitted to the PICU under the care of a pediatric pulmonologist. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis, and is presently undergoing treatment and also maintaining the trach.
Since Tracey was re-admitted due to an emergency condition, the sponsor site advanced money for the medicines and the necessary medical supplies. The family can't afford to pay for the extra medical costs associated with Tracey's surgery. His father used to work as a cashier in a convenience store, but has been jobless since finishing his six-month contract. His family of four now relies solely on the grandfather's meagre salary as a local police officer, which is barely enough to meet the family's basic living expenses.
The sponsor site is asking once more for Chalice to help this family pay $922.96 to cover the extra costs related to Tracey's surgery and the medical supplies needed to suction and flush his trach a few times each day, to keep him healthy.
