Tetyana, a social worker from our sponsor site in Ternopil, Ukraine, has suffered seizures since she was 16 years old.
The seizures were accompanied by terrible headaches and dizziness. She was diagnosed with a small tumor in the left part of her brain in 2003 and received treatment at that time. After that she had regular MRI scans to ensure that the tumor did not grow.
In October 2016 the seizures began to occur more frequently. Within a few months the regular seizures became unpredictable with her condition turning critical in 2019. Tetyana underwent tests and an MRI which revealed that the tumor had grown three times larger and surgery was required.
The surgery took place in July 2019 and was successful. Following surgery she underwent two courses of radiation (35 treatments) and one course of chemotherapy (15 treatments). The treatment is very expensive and the family has already used up all of its savings.
Tetyana lives with her 10-year-old son and husband in her mother's home. She is the main wage earner for her family - her husband is a seasonal construction worker while her mother is retired.
The doctors say that Tetyana needs another set of chemotherapy treatments, but the family has no money to continue the treatment. The cost for this treatment will be $1,387.54 and our sponsor site director has come to Chalice for assistance to give Tetyana the chance to recover and return to work.
