Olga, a 50-year-old single mother living near our Luis Amigo sponsor site, suffered a stroke in March.
She is the mother of our sponsor site accountant. Thanks to the financial support from Chalice donors, at that time she received critical needs funding to cover the cost of her medical care, medications and rehabilitation. As a result of the treatment she had regained some of her speech and mobility.
Unfortunately, Olga has recently suffered a second stroke and is in need of more medical assistance. Her high blood pressure caused her to have two seizures, after which she was rushed to the hospital. Once her condition stabilized, the hospital discharged her because she doesn't have medical insurance. She is struggling with speech and mobility. In order to continue with her recovery, Olga needs three months of intensive treatment at the hospital, lab tests, medicines and means to cover travel expenses to and from the hospital. Total cost is expected to be $4,108.
Olga lives at home with her three adult children. The family has very limited resources as two of the children do not have stable jobs and the wages of the third barely cover the household expenses. There is no money to cover the much needed treatment.
The sponsor site director has come to Chalice requesting assistance to cover Olga's costs for medical treatment, urgently needed to help her regain her speech and some of her mobility.
