Alina is a 13-year-old sponsored girl from our Ternopil sponsor site in Ukraine.
She attends a specialized school for hearing impaired children. She is outgoing, active, and loves to swim.
Alina was born with severe hearing loss in both ears. She uses hearing aids in both ears which allow her to hear and speak, but on a very poor level. Without hearing aids she cannot hear and uses sign language for communication.
Her current hearing aids are old and expensive to maintain. Her doctors have recommended she wear better quality hearing aids which offer high definition sound. These new hearing aids, along with regular lessons with a speech therapist, will help improve her speech and drastically improve her quality of life. New hearing aids are beyond the financial means of the family.
Alina lives with her sister and her parents, who both suffer from medical conditions. Her father works seasonally in Poland and her mother as a teacher's assistant in a daycare center. They can barely afford to provide their family with the basic necessities and have no additional resources to pay for Alina's hearing aids.
Knowing that the family is unable to purchase hearing aids for Alina, our sponsor site director has come to Chalice for assistance.
