On Nov. 2 Saida, a passenger in a car, was injured when the vehicle collided with 2 motorcycle taxis in Yapacani.
Saida was rushed to hospital where emergency surgery was performed, but sadly, she passed away in hospital four days later from brain damage resulting from the accident.
Saida was 22 years old and had been sponsored by Chalice for seven years through our Yapacani Sponsor Site until July of this year. She had just recently graduated as an auxiliary nurse from a local college and had begun work as a nurse in Campo Vibora Community Hospital in Yapacani. She was one of three children - her younger sister is currently sponsored by Chalice. Her family is devastated by her passing.
The hospital costs, including surgery, were $8,959 and in addition her funeral expenses will be over $1300. The family is very poor - the father works in agriculture when work is available and the mother sells pizara (quinoa with cheese) in a cart as a street vendor. The family will raise/borrow the funds to pay for the funeral but have no way of paying the hospital bill.
Our Chalice sponsor site director is requesting funding assistance to cover the hospital costs so as to help relieve some of the heavy burden that this family is facing as a result of this tragedy.
Funding request: $8,959.00
Critical Need: BYY1118A
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
