Vitaliy is an 18-year-old young man with cerebral palsy. He is sponsored through the Ternopil Site in Ukraine.

Chalice critical needs - a new wheelchair for VitaliyAt 11 months old, Vitaliy was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spastic paraplegia in his arms and legs, meaning he has increased muscle tone causing stiff muscles and making it very difficult for him to move his arms and legs.

Vitaliy's mother currently uses a simple wheeled chair to move him around and takes care of his basic needs, but he now needs a motorized wheelchair to both ease the physical strain on his mother and give him a measure of independence and dignity. His family is very poor and has no ability to make this purchase. His father's health condition does not allow him to work and his mother, Tetyana, can't work because she needs to be home to care for her son.

Living in an isolated village, a motorized wheelchair would give Vitaliy the ability to travel to the sports ground to watch other children play. It would also allow him to visit the library. He loves to read, but the village library is far from their home. He currently asks his neighbours to bring him books or newspapers.

The sponsor site has asked Chalice for $6,377.60 to greatly increase the quality of Vitaliy's life through the purchase of a motorized wheelchair.
