Critical Need: CNGWA0124

Donifaa was having a toothache, but when he went for a check-up, he was diagnosed with ameloblastoma – a tumour of the jaw.

Micheal's medical, dialysis, Nandom, Ghana

The tumour is aggressive in nature and grows slowly, Donifaa needs treatment quickly. Depending on the tumor's location and stage, ameloblastoma treatment options include radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery.

Donifaa is 15 years old and comes from a large family with nine siblings in the community Chalice’s Wa site serves. His family will need to pay for the surgical intervention and any necessary follow-up care, including radiation or chemotherapy, as well as any necessary dental and oral health treatments required during and after his recovery.

Donifaa's family are subsistence farmers and having a challenging time making ends meet. They do not want to delay his treatment or increase the likelihood of other problems emerging. They approached the Wa site staff for urgent financial assistance.

The Wa site staff assessed the situation and composed a budget for Donifaa’s immediate and long-term treatment and recovery, coming to $2,284.87 CAD. This includes his surgery, anesthesia, hospitalization, mandibular reconstruction plate, transportation and five days of meals. They have requested this amount on the family’s behalf.
