Lauro is 65 years old and the breadwinner of his household, which includes his 90-year-old mother and a brother with a disability. His daughter, Laura Elliane, works for Chalice’s Don Bosco sponsor site in Paraguay.
Lauro was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2023. He underwent emergency surgery, but there are signs of metastasis. The cancer is very advanced, and he must begin chemotherapy immediately to prevent further spread. He also needs special foods and supplement drinks because his body cannot absorb enough nutrition on its own.
Lauro is too ill to work. He relies on publicly funded healthcare, which does not offer all the treatments he needs. As a result, he cannot afford the surgery, chemotherapy, and nutritional supplements.
The Don Bosco sponsor site staff have requested $2,417.58 CAD to support Laura Elliane’s father to cover his initial surgery and biopsy, four months’ worth of daily nutrition drinks, and his chemo.
