Hariharan is 17 years old and lives with parents and older sister near our Tamil site in India. He is hearing and speech impaired and attends a school for the deaf with the support of a Chalice sponsor.
In late July 2023, Hariharan was riding a motor scooter near his house, lost his balance, and fell. His right hand was very painful. His parents took him to the nearby hospital for first aid, and then a second hospital for an X-ray. The scan showed a fracture in his right hand.
He underwent immediate surgery to insert a metal plate. They discharged him three days later with a prescription for pain management medication.
Hariharan’s emergency medical bills came to $998.15 CAD. His parents, Balu and Ramayee, are low-wage workers, and cannot afford these charges. The Tamil sponsor site staff have therefore requested to cover the expenses on the family’s behalf. These funds will cover Hariharan’s nursing, pharmacy, lab and OT charges, surgeon and anesthetist fees, and his medication.
