In late January 2023, Prislan was suffering from abdominal pain. His family took him to the hospital, where the doctor treated him and ordered an abdominal scan. The scan showed that he had bile duct stones, and they were causing his bile duct to dilate.
The doctor recommended a laparoscopic operation, which Prislan underwent a few days later. He remained in the hospital for more than week, under observation. He was not recovering. His stomach was distended, and his urine indicated a problem. He needed another procedure to install a stent. After this second operation, Prislan’s health stabilized, and he was able to go home to recover. The stent will be removed after six weeks.
While his family is glad that he is out of danger, his hospitalization has created medical expenses of $1,839.29 CAD. His mother is the family’s sole earner, and this is far beyond her already limited means. The Madurai site staff have put forward a request to cover the hospital bills, which cover Prislan’s: doctor, surgeon, and anaesthetist fees; OT, lab, and nursing charges; and bills from his diagnostic scans and images.
