In December, Elta started having severe abdominal pain. She went to the doctors, who ran a pelvic ultrasound. The imaging revealed uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Elta needed immediate surgery, which she underwent at the end of January. She has dutifully attended her follow-up appointments since the procedures.
But this sudden medical crisis comes with many out-of-pocket expenses. Elta cannot afford these bills as a single mother, especially during Haiti’s current political and social instability. She came to the Haiti South site office to ask for advice and assistance. The site staff helped her draft a budget and request for assistance.
Elta’s request for $1,754.38 CAD includes a reimbursement for the expenses she has already incurred, including medication, hospital and surgery fees, and the fibroma treatment. This budget will also help her manage her follow-up appointment fees for two months.
