Since 2021, Ronikka has had pain in her left leg. A local doctor gave her pain medication, but after a year the pain was so severe she went to the hospital to seek further treatment. In mid-December, the doctors conducted X-rays. They showed that her left knee had severe osteoarthritis. The doctor recommended immediate knee replacement surgery. She underwent the operation the next day. After five days in the hospital, they discharged her to recover at home. Ronikka is now taking her medication and doing her physiotherapy exercises. The Tamil site staff are pleased to report she is keeping well now.
But Ronikka’s emergency surgery has created medical bills of $3,878.55 CAD. As a daily wage worker and a widow, Ronikka cannot afford these expenses. The Tamil site staff have put forward a request to Chalice to help her. These funds will cover Ronikka’s lab tests, X-Ray, doctors' fees, operating theatre and ward charges, medicine, and occupational therapy fees.
