Chalice critical needs - Medical expenses for Chester, Nairobi, Kenya

In 2019, Chester started feeling pain on her right breast and she could feel a small swelling, but it seemed minor, and she hoped it would resolve on its own. Unfortunately, after a year, the swelling and pain increased to the point of affecting her mobility.

Chester went for a checkup at the hospital, where a scan confirmed their concerns. The lump would need immediate surgical removal. Her parents knew her surgery would be beyond their means, and so tried to raise funds from their community, but did not have success. Chester's mother approached the Nairobi site office for help, and they visited her at home in December. The site staff knew they could offer help and financial support through Chalice and advised Chester to pursue treatment at a new hospital.

Her new surgeon diagnosed the lump as a Fibroadenoma, which is non-cancerous. She would still need the surgery to stop the pain and regain her mobility. Chester's surgery in March went very well and she is recuperating at home. She is awaiting her doctor's permission to return to school.

Knowing that Chester's family could not afford the procedure despite their best efforts, the Nairobi site staff have put forward the request for the cost of her surgery, a total of $1,732.44 CAD.
