Project Location: Haiti North
Project Code: HHN0721

Background:
Chalice sponsorship began in the communities of Terrier-Rouge and Grand Bassin in 2002. Although they are small towns, the children and families have not been spared the challenges that have come with Haiti's ongoing political turmoil and social disorder, which has led to soaring inflation and shortages on essentials.

Chalice community projects - Textbooks for high school students, HaitiAlthough they are small towns, the children and families have not been spared the challenges that have come with Haiti’s ongoing political turmoil and social disorder, which has led to soaring inflation and shortages on essentials. The unmanageable costs of food, fuel and other basics are pushing families further into poverty and food insecurity. The “basics” children need to attend school daily are becoming luxuries for the parents and guardians of sponsored children.

The children’s education is central to the Haiti North sponsor site’s mission. But for the 662 sponsored children who are in high school, the costs of textbooks are prohibitive.

To remove this costly barrier from the students, the Haiti North site will purchase a new set of textbooks for the secondary schools in both Terrier-Rouge and Grand Bassin. The textbooks include math, geography, biology, French, Haitian history, grammar, and physics.

The total order, consisting of hundreds of books, comes to $29,439.57 CAD. Your support will relieve the financial burden for parents of 662 secondary school students, and open doors for many to complete their high school education.

Budget in Canadian Funds: $29,439.57 CAD
