Chalice in Schools provides free multimedia resources to Catholic educators and Chaplains and one-of-a-kind opportunities for Canadian students to engage with their peers in schools in Chalice’s sites in the developing world. Chalice staff will work with educators to create a customized program that works for the needs of their class, and can include live speakers and school-to-school matching and communication.

Educators can choose from any or all of five awareness and fundraising campaigns, depending on the age-level of their students, the duration of the school’s participation, and the poverty issue they would like to focus on.

"I learned that even the smallest donation can make a huge difference. Now I think about how much money we raised, and how much the well we are helping to build will do for the school, and the children who go there. I am very happy that I got to play a role in the raising of the money, and I hope to do this kind of charity work again." - Lara, high school student
School Connections
Our Most Popular Campaign

School Connections is all about making connections with real schools and real students with real needs:
* A school in Canada is connected with a school in one of our sites.
* Both schools exchange introductions and interesting information through student-made videos.
* Both schools regularly pray for each other during the campaign.
* The school in Canada raises funds to help with a specific need of their sister school.
* They receive a report about the benefits provided to the children of their sister school.

Step Up to the Plate
During Lent, elementary students are invited to tackle the issue of hunger/malnutrition in our sites. They are challenged to do an extra act of service or a chore every day in exchange for $1. They’ll track their progress on their Days of Lent countdown sheet with stickers. By Easter, each student will have earned $40 that will go to the Chalice Children Nutrition program, which provides children and families with healthy meals in areas struggling with hunger and malnutrition.

Four Sundays of Hope
During Advent, students are invited to tackle the four central challenges of poverty faced in developing countries: lack of access to nutritious foods, clean water, healthcare and quality education. We will inform students about these issues with five brief videos, and inspire them to take action. Equipped with their “Hope Cards”, each week, the students will be challenged to share what they’ve learned with their friends, families, and neighbours, and collect donations. By Christmas, each child will have earned $40 that will be used to make purchases from the Chalice Gift Catalogue, particularly books for children, food for families, water storage tanks and vaccines.

I Can Tell Your Story
At any time during Ordinary Time, students are invited to learn about the challenges of accessing quality education, and how sponsorship can change the lives of students in developing countries. Students will be equipped with an “I Can Tell Your Story” card and 20 stickers, and are challenged to find a sponsor for the child they’ve been entrusted with. By connecting a sponsor with a child in need, the students will be creating a lasting relationship that will not only change the life of the child and their family, but in the sponsor’s life as well.

Saints Among Us
During Ordinary Time (optionally around the Feast of All Saints), students are invited to tackle the challenge many students face in accessing quality education. Their class will be paired with a sister class in a school in one of Chalice’s international sites. The Canadian youth will receive information about their sister school, and there will be a chance to have a video call with them! The Canadian students will conduct a research project about role models of christian service, then design and implement a fundraiser for the needs of their sister class. These needs could include: books, educational materials, and classroom furniture.

From Heart to Finish
Over the course of a three year relationship, a Canadian school will be paired with a school in one of Chalice’s sites in the developing world. The students of each school will have opportunities to exchange greetings and interact live through video calls. The Canadian youth will come to understand the challenges and needs of their sister school, and will take on the challenge of creating fundraising and awareness campaigns for those needs. While “From Heart to Finish” is the longest commitment, it has the potential to bear the most fruit, as the heartfelt relationship and solidarity grows among the students over the course of their three years.
