Vinay was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia and jaundice.
Funding request: $3,377.45 CAD
Critical Need: CN-IMM0525

Vinay is 23 years old, and lives with his mother Nagalakshmi, and younger brother, Kalyan. Nagalakshmi raised the boys on her own, resolving to see them complete their education. Vinay studied until grade twelve and took up work to support his mother and brother. Kalyan, with the support of his Chalice sponsor, is continuing his high school studies.
In late 2024, Vinay started experiencing pain all over his body, abdominal distension, fever, and vomiting. His family took him to the nearest hospital, where he was treated for two days. Seeing little improvement, they then moved him to a well-regarded hospital, who placed Vinay immediately into the ICU. They ran a battery of tests and scans, from which they diagnosed sickle cell anemia and jaundice. He was in the ICU for five days and then he was transferred to an inpatient ward. They discharged him in stable health, with the advice to take daily medication and return for monthly follow-ups.
Nagalakshmi had prudently saved some of her son’s sponsorship support for emergencies but could only cover a couple of days of hospitalization. Vinay’s final bill of $3,377.45 CAD far exceeded what she could have prepared for. The Mangalagiri site staff have therefore requested to cover Vinay’s bills, which include charges for critical care support (ICU), monitoring, nursing, professional fees, oxygen, laboratory investigations, medicine, and disposables.
Please note that any donations that exceed the request will be used to fund other critical need emergencies that may arise.
