Education Investment Project, Don Bosco, Paraguay

Increasingly, the end of high school is the end of formal education for sponsored students in our Don Bosco site. Despite their ambitions and motivation, their families don’t have the resources to pay post-secondary tuition or transportation costs. The young adults feel compelled to help their family financially, and so they find informal jobs. With families struggling to meet their basic needs, saving for tuition becomes impossible. They become accustomed to life in the working world, and their aspirations for higher education ebb away.

In response, the Don Bosco site staff have partnered with Chalice to support twenty sponsored high school graduates to attend a local technical school or university.

The students, all aged 18-22, are enrolled in schools in their city that offer government-recognized certificate programs. The program will cover tuition, fees, transportation (bus tickets), and the educational materials they need for either their university or vocational programs.

The selected students are pursuing a wide array of programs and careers, including psychology, law, business administration, radiology, education, nursing, and engineering.

The site staff will be the students’ close companions. They’ll run training meetings for the group, discussing topics that are relevant to their life as students, and some spiritual development too. Staff will regularly check-in with the students and write updates for program feedback.

The total budget for the 5.5-year program is $97,497.00 CAD, an average of $4800 CAD per student over that time. This budget includes twenty enrollment/tuitions, other fees (i.e., registration, exams), transportation, educational materials, and staff accompaniment meetings.

Your support will help twenty sponsored students build skills, achieve professional careers, and earn incomes that will uplift their families and communities.
