Chalice
Maria*, a victim of human trafficking, was recently rescued from the streets by the Sisters at our sponsor site in Latin America. We have very little knowledge of this young teenager's past history, but she has suffered much during her lifetime.
Unfortunately, she tried to escape from the shelter and while climbing a three-metre-high wall, lost her balance and fell. After being taken to the local hospital it was determined that she had a fracture of her left ankle, requiring emergency surgery. The total cost including diagnosis, surgery, hospitalization, and medications, is $642.

Recognizing the financial hardship of this medical cost to the shelter, our Sponsor Site Director has come to Chalice for funding to pay these costs.

The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the same Congregation that partners with Chalice to run our sponsor site, also runs a shelter for teenagers who have been victims of human trafficking and other abusive situations, and are referred to the shelter by the courts.
