Tanzania's population is made up of more than 120 African groups. Some of the tribal languages are spoken with clicks. It is mainly an agricultural country. Agriculture employs 80% of the workforce and accounts for about 85% of the annual exports. Ngorongoro Crater has some of the densest population of wildlife in the world. Tanzania is also home to Africa's highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and great plain, the Serengeti. The climate varies from tropical along the coast to temperate in the highlands. Tanzania is known as a peaceful social democracy and its people are greatly talented with music and culture.
Life in Tanzania
The economy is among the bottom 10% of the world: its Annual Inflation Rate is about 16%. Nearly 50% of the population is under age 15. More than 80% are rural dwellers. Child labour is common especially for girls who are employed as domestic servants, sometimes by force. Poor children are trafficked internally for commercial sexual exploitation. Concubines and polygamy are prevalent with many children born outside of marriage. It has the 6th highest deaths from HIV/AIDS in the world. Life Expectancy is 60.8 years. Infant Mortality Rate is high at 45.1/ 1000 live births.
Primary education is compulsory, but not enough schools are available to accommodate all of the children and only about 84% of the children are enrolled. It is difficult for the children in remote areas to attend school because of the distance they have to travel. Therefore, many children are uneducated. Access to secondary education is available to only 50% of the eligible population.
