About Orissa ...
The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul run the Chalice Orissa Sponsor Site which opened in 1997. They are devoted to the service of the poor in Northeastern India. The site has five locations over three states and educates and rehabilitates over 300 children and elders. The development activities of the site include the running of both a girls' and boys' hostel, a rehabilitation center for differently-abled children, and a home for elderly women who have no family or have been abandoned. These people are mostly Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribal people coming from remote villages in the nearby mountainous region. These villages lack basic infrastructure like schools and hospitals.
The climate of the region ranges from dry sub-humid to semi-arid. It is greatly dependent on the monsoon rains and is prone to drought. Madurai is a strikingly fascinating and complex city and Tamil Nadu state is most known for its ancient Hindu temples and classical dance. The region has a high level of poverty, especially in rural areas. High dropout rates and low rates of completion of secondary school continue to hinder the quality of the workforce.
Mission - Orissa
The Chalice Sponsor Site of Orissa is thankful for the opportunity to serve beneficiaries through service to the poor and needy. Together with Chalice sponsors, the site is forming and building a future generation of well educated, healthy citizens, and a sustainable society out of the poor and the marginalized.
Sponsorship in Orissa
The Chalice Sponsorship Program in Orissa provides basic quality education, nutritional support, health care and most basic needs, thus helping to ensure holistic development of the children. The children are provided with all the required educational needs such as school fees, boarding fees, uniforms, pencils, notebooks, school bag, lunch bag, geometry box, etc. Having these items encourages children to go to school regularly. Each quarter, food baskets are provided for every family, including personal and home hygiene supplies.
