Erick was a smart boy and did well in his exams. He qualified to join university, but his mother could not raise the fee required. When he realized that his mother could not raise the university fee, Erick started looking for a job. He secured a three-month sales and promotion contract with one company. The contract ended but he had some cash to pay for a short course in CCTV installation.
He also learned art and drawing from his uncle and sold drawings for a small fee. Life was difficult then because not many people prioritized CCTV installation. This left him jobless and disillusioned. He was therefore very excited when Chalice ILEG provided Njiru Stars Group with a shipping container to partition and use the space to establish small enterprises. The education acquired during the Youth Entrepreneurship Conference, and his experience as a sales and promotion staff member helped him to start a small retail outlet and to run it efficiently.
Erick is looking forward to expanding his retail outlet to provide goods and MPesa (mobile cash transfer shop) services. This requires additional stock and startup capital to establish an MPesa service and additional grill work to extablish a small MPesa outlet. This will cost Kes. 280,000 or CAD $3,636.36.
